Emergency Medical Program
CCHS will loan up to $50 with no interest to assist people needing to take their pet to the veterinarian. This is offered to help people experiencing temporary financial crises. You can pick the certificate up at Paws on the Sand in Lincoln City. For emergencies in the south county you can deal directly with Grove Vet, Newport Vet or Animal Medical Care. They can give you the paperwork to complete. Call 541-265-3719 if you have any questions.
Stray or Community Cat Program
CCHS will pay for the full cost of spay/neutering of any stray or community cats.
We also have traps available to loan for a refundable $20 deposit and, occasionally, may offer a volunteer to help trap.
People taking advantage of this program need to call 541-265-3719 to set up an appointment. Your call will be returned within 24 hours. If you are in south county, you must agree to take the cat in for surgery at the Central Coast Spay/Neuter Clinic in Newport. In north county we will pay the CCSN rate and you pay the difference. We expect your to pick up the stray, do any necessary follow-up care, then return the cat to the colony and agree to feed the animal for the duration of its life. Most colonies will no longer multiply if all the cats are altered, and their lives are often shorter than domestic cats who have homes. CCHS greatly appreciates your compassion for all the homeless cats in our community!
Humane Education
Humane Education is a form of character education that stresses compassion and responsibility in our treatment of animals and their habitats. Hardly a new concept, humane education was introduced to American school children on a broad scale in the late nineteenth century by George Andell, the founder of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
NEST Program
This program is done on a case-by-case basis and will provide certain medications for pets being brought in who have commonly treated medical conditions such as: upper respiratory diseases, flea medication, skin problems, etc. All cases must be approved in advance. Call 541-265-3719 and your call will be returned in within 24 hours.
Population Assistance Program
This is a program designed for people who are going through tough financial times. If our $15 spay/neuter certificate is just not enough to make it possible for you to spay or neuter your dog or cat, call 541-265-3719. A volunteer will call you back and work with you to make the cost affordable for you.
